I Went to New York, and All You Got Was This Blog Post

Chamy vacation math: A deposition for Chad in New York = opportunity for mini Chamy vacation. We had a great time and I get the bonus of a little blog material and the chance to share some of the memorable moments and trip-inspired musings:
My selfie at the New York Historical Society Museum which had an awesome Mo Willems exhibit.
I may have been the only adult there without a child.
  • I award myself a metaphorical cookie for walking from our hotel, to the New York Historical Society Museum, to the Museum of Modern Art, to the TKTS booth in Times Square, back to the MOMA and then finally our hotel, by myself, without getting lost. Woot.
  • I discovered I'm a total sucker for the Pret a Manger restaurant chain, even though it's pretentious and I had no idea what the name meant before I googled it. "Manger" seems like a really odd word to have in a restaurant name, but the appeal is all about the easy access to salads. If these ever come to Minnesota I may just have to move into one.
  • The afternoon we were out in the rain was rather cold and sucky, but it led to a fun Irish coffee taste test experiment. There were two deeply touristy Irish pubs right across the street from our hotel, so we were morally obligated to have an Irish coffee at each to see which one warmed us up the most.
  • Speaking of rain, trying to navigate the hordes around Time Square when oblivious tourists are sporting umbrellas is definitely an exercise in patience.
  • I'm embarrassed that I was too embarrassed to ask what floor the "The Ballad of Sexual Dependency" exhibit was on at Museum of Modern Art. I was also relieved to learn the exhibit hadn't opened yet because I really didn't have time to see it.
  • And on the subject of time management, MOMA is massive and next time I hope I can allow myself to explore it at a more leisurely pace.
  • The sexy ambiance that our hotel was going for made us chuckle but we had a great stay. We really appreciated the awesome customer service (including a free bottle of wine) provided by Patrick, the desk clerk. I love that one morning he told us "You be you." Yes, I've heard that a thousand times before but he imbued that tired cliche with new relevancy for me (and an inexplicable and I'm sure annoying urge to want to keep saying it to Chad).
  • Imagine a family with a 9 year-old-boy hanging out in this lobby. Hee-hee.
  • I'm really thankful the hotel restaurant had sushi, including shitake jalapeno sushi.
  • I really should decide what restaurant I want to eat at BEFORE Chad and I are wondering around at 9:00 at night and I am hangry and chilly. Happily, we eventually ended up at the awesome Don Giovanni's (after bailing on some French place because I was over risotto.)
And what about the theater?!! That was, after all, the raison d'etre for the whole trip. Short answer, it was amazing. We saw "The Humans," "Bright Star," and "Turn Me Loose" (yes, referring to it does get the Loverboy song of the same name stuck in my mind). Hopefully I'll make time to cover those shows in another post, but since I'm not a theater critic and won't be able to do the experience justice, I may just leave it at amazing.

Now I gotta go be me.
