Good Trivia, Angels

Our trivia team, Ed's Angel's, made a triumphant return tonight. We earned one of our highest scores ever (45) and we claimed third place. (If we ever start earning more points than my age we will be in sweet shape).

Tonight's victory was definitely due to the contribution of every Angel. Each of us was able to use our unique spheres of knowledge to answer a variety of questions.

I was surprised and quite pleased that I got all the Shakespeare questions right. And if you're thinking "Well, of course you did, you're a librarian," please stop. Being a librarian really has nothing to do with Shakespeare, and I wasn't even an English major. I'm ambivalent about Shakespeare, but I've seen enough Shakespeare productions that I feel I should have enough knowledge to give me an edge at trivia.

And those are the questions that drive me nuts...the ones that I feel I should know the answer to, like Greek mythology or those related to Geekdom. I'm a competitive person, but I'm not bothered by not knowing the answers that are just outside of my realm. Yes, maybe I'll change and grow, but as of today, I feel no responsibility to know the answer to a geography, sports, or pop music question.

However, I'm still haunted by not knowing that "Jubilee" is the name of an anniversary and also an X-Men character. Not only am I a geek whose house is filled with X-Men toys, that was one of our cat's names, for Charles Xavier's sake.

Unfortunately, our third place prize was two tickets to the Science Museum for tomorrow night and no one on our team was available to use them. Oh well, at least we earned the honor of third place. I don't think we've ever placed higher than third place, and the prize is usually tickets to something we can't use. Or a gift certificate for ONE donut (I'm not kidding).

And we had a dramatic battle for those tickets...as often happens, there was a tie for third place, and I'm the only Angel willing to go up for the tie-breaking question. Yes, I am the least-qualified Angel for these questions because they always involve numbers, but, needs must. If you only have one extrovert on your team, you make do.

Of course the real prize, no matter where we place, is getting to hang out with the fellow Angels, drinking awesome drinks at Wander North and creating our collective Angel hive-mind to answer questions posed by the most excellent and charming Trivia Mafia host, Colin.

And why, you may ask, is our team "Ed's Angels"? 1) Why not, and 2) We almost always have Ed with us, and when he's not, he's with us in spirit, and 3) We're awesomely cool ignorance-fighting trivia angels who, at least collectively, remember the 70's.
